King Lear’s Madness Essay
G K Hunter (1972) in his book proposes that Goneril and Regan are very cruel towards their father and they overwrought him. King Lear is going through external and internal storm because his daughters betrayed him. King Lear gains vision in his disparate world which he never sees in his comfortable world. I agree King Lear is very much puzzled by his evil daughters and his internal storm hurts him most than the harsh weather.
Alfred Harbage (1964) in introduction claims that King Lear is not debased from the heart. His expulsion of Cordelia and Kent is the reflex of his passionate connection to them. King Lear just needs love from little girl, and it is a good thing. I agree King Lear is tender-hearted and somebody has said right that express our anger on those whom we love most.
Sewell (1964) in his book examines that King Lear does a terrible thing to Cordelia. And Cordelia should outdo her sisters in protestation of her love. Cordelia should not make that reply "Nothing". Lear in his madness, without sweetness, realizes the true love of Cordelia.
King Lear gives his wealth to his daughters and in return he demands for aendance of all his needs his
100 knights and tle of King. King Lear is expecng a good life aer rering. Blames King Lear that he is
responsible for his miserable condion as he himself allows his evil minded daughters to abuse him by
taking verbal mastery as compliance, and rewards them for it. Portrays Goneril and Regan as devilish
daughters who are not sas'ed aer receiving whole kingdom and wants to snatch their father
remaining polical control.

Phillipa Kelly (2008) in his research blames King Lear that he is responsible for his miserable condition as he himself allows his evil minded daughters to abuse him. In my views King Lear bows to flattery by considering it as devotion yet King Lear is not responsible instead his daughters are responsible who plotted against him without any cause.
Ravi (2015) in his research examines that Goneril and Regan are morally wicked and when King Lear realizes his daughters's conspiracies his heart breaks into pieces and he leaves the castles. Furthermore King Lear's wicked daughters and Edmund take hand in hand to turn against King Lear. I agree they are doing inhuman activities and they showed height of evilness in taking support of Edmund to harm Kinf more.
