Essay Topic:child development,psychology

My interview took place over an e-mail. I had never worked or know anyone in the field of psychology. I decided to e-mail a random psychologist and asked if may take the time (if available) to help conduct an interview by answering ten simple questions. Debora Laser, PhD, who is a child psychologist in New York City. I learned a lot from this interview with Debora. She first briefly told me that she attended University of Colombia in New York City. As a child she grew up always observant people and in a group of people she would listen and look around and take in the people around her. She also said that is usually how she makes good character friends. A lot of her friends would call her and use her as their shoulder to cry on whenever they would go through life situation. Debora has always been the one that people would confide in and was known to be the "Mother" of her group of friends. I can relate to being the "Mother" of my group of friends. Sometimes I am the one person that they also go to for advice and of sound mind.
Debora did her internship at a place called The Relationship Foundation were This foundation provides services like social service organizations, domestic violence prevention, mental health clinics, and prison counselors and therapists. Her experience at the foundation she said was interesting. She met children that were being abuse, bullied and dealing with family issues. At some point I felt bad and sometimes cried listening to some of the stories. She had one case where she met this teenage girl, who she was my helping to found her voice an expressing them in a more productive and effective way without having to psychically fight to get her point across. This made Debora feel great that she was able to reach at least one person.
Debora goes on in this interview and mentioned that sometimes dealing with clients can be difficult when it comes to teenage children. In the room the teenager would just look at you and give sassy comments and as a professional, we still have to maintain our and think about their reasons for have the issues they are going through. I guess what Debora said is true. I would have to think about my life and say, "this not my child". So, we as Therapist would have to use a different approach and figure out the root of the teenager issues.
In conclusion, talking to Debora has inspired me to continue to want to help children. Maybe go into child development psychology. Debora said, sometime she think that she have been a magnet to people growing up, where they feel comfortable talking to her. In her office, some her clients would decide whether they should talk to her and can they really confide in her. Debora became a Child Psychology because she did not like to see children struggle and felt that helping
