Global warming and its causes Essay

Global warming and its causes, 501 words essay example

Essay Topic:global warming

The gradual heating of Earth's surface, oceans and atmosphere is what scientist and as well as us know as global warming. Global warming has been around for a long time but just recently in the 1900's has caught a lot of attention worldwide because of the dramatic changes in the glaciers at the polar regions, more flood and temperatures in the summer reach over 100 degrees. Many people believe that global warming has occurred because of man-made green houses in the troposphere that trap some of the infrared rays reflecting heat back down to the surface, this theory claims that the concentration in the atmosphere is caused by humans. Scientist have said this theory to be true but not the full truth. Climate scientist have agreed that the main cause of global warming is no doubt human activities which have caused and increased the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is when the atmosphere traps heat radiating from earth towards space that resulting in warming. There are specific gases that block heat from leaving like long lived gases that stay semi permanently in the atmosphere and neither physically nor chemically react to the changes in the atmosphere which is called "forcing" climate change. Water vapor is a gas that responds physically or chemically when there is changes in the temperature is seen as feedback but a water vapor isn't the only gas that does that. Some other gases that have caused global warming including water vapor are Nitrous Oxide, Carbon Dioxide, Methane and Chlorofluorocarbons. Water vapor increase along with the chances of clouds and precipitation as the Earth's atmosphere warms. Water vapor is the biggest but clouds and are the most important greenhouse effect and they are a water vapors feedbacks. Carbon dioxide is not that big of harm to the earth but it's an important component of the atmosphere and is released through natural processes like respiratory and volcano eruption and through human activities as the theory stated. Human activities like deforestation, land use changes and burning fossil fuels has increase atmospheric CO2 concentration by a third. Methane is a hydrocarbon gas made both through natural sources and human activities such as decomposition of waste in landfills, agriculture, rice cultivation, ruminant digestion and manure management corresponding with domestic livestock. Nitrous oxide is a powerful greenhouse gas that soil cultivation practices has produced but mostly the use of commercial and organic fertilizers, fossil fuels combustion, nitric acid production and biomass burning. Lastly Chlorofluorocarbons which are synthetic compounds entirely of industrial origin that are used in many things but now largely control the production and release to the atmosphere by international agreement for their ability to contribute to destruction of the ozone layer. The natural greenhouse is changing because of human activities like stated before humans are burning fossil fuel such as coal and oil which increased the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Coal and oil have this effect because the burning process combines carbon with oxygen in the air to make carbon dioxide.
