Howl's ‘Moving Castle’ movie adaptation Essay

In 2004, Hayao Miyazaki, one of the creators of Studio Ghibli, and a genius when it came to adapting and directing movies, adapted the book Howl's Moving Castle. Based on 1986 British novel by Diana Wynn Jones, the book is very common within the guidelines of an "English fantasy novel". Howl's Moving Castle has a light hearted, simple narration of a chapter book for older kids and younger teenagers. After all, when it was published it won honorable mentions for the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, and the American Library Association (ALA) Award. It has also received a Best of the Best selection in Young Adult fiction by the ALA, which gave Miyazaki a favourite movie to work on, given his previous adaptations. Miyazaki, though trying to stick to the original story, always brings his own ideas and point of view to the story.
Howl's Moving Castle is a real Miyazaki movie because even though the topics may be considered strange, confusing, or hard to follow, he doesn't spend more time than necessary explaining what everything is, and what it's purpose is. The story begins with introducing the main character, Sophie. Though many things she's pretty and has all the potential in the world, Sophie thinks very low of herself. Throughout her life, Sophie believed all of the clichs she has been told about being the eldest child seeing as she's being told she will amount to nothing marvelous. As an example, Sophie believes that it is inevitable that her youngest sister Martha has the potential and the power to set forth on a journey of her own getting fame and fortune while all Sophie has is a steady-paying job.
One afternoon, when going to meet her sister at the local bake shop, Sophie is encountered by Howl, a powerful wizard, as he saves her from guards. After she is saved, Sophie is met by the Witch of the Waste, who is madly in love with the wizard Howl. When the Witch of the Waste is felt that she is lower than Sophie, the witch places a spell on her causing the beautiful girl to become old - the thing about the spell is that she cannot tell anyone, and must break it herself. Deciding to leave town, Sophie begins on a journey of self-worth and love. Along the way, she makes new friends a living scarecrow, who is cursed to be a scarecrow until kissed by his true love.
Being escorted to Howl's moving castle, Sophie uses her wit to become the castle's new maid. As time progresses, Howl shows himself to be a very strange wizard coming and going at random, overusing his magic at times, and he is very self-centered and considers himself the most beautiful man alive. Despite all this, Sophie can tell he's a good-hearted person
This is clearly one of Miyazaki's most dynamic films. Howl's Moving Castle is loved enormously worldwide, which lead to the movie being nominated for best animated picture.
