Essay Topic:columbia,school

Question 1. In "Miss Columbia's School House" when looking in the schoolhouse I do not see anything but chaos. Each one of the kids inside of the school represents another country. The representation of "others" is violence, I see a white man which would be the united states hitting a Chinese man. No one is getting along inside the schoolhouse so the male figure, which represents Hawaii, must be very desperate to want to come into a violent environment. In the document Emilio Aguinaldo Criticizes American Imperialism in the Philippines, Emilio was allied with the United States. The United States and the Philippines saw eye to eye and that is why they allied at first but when the Philippines went as an independent nation the United States did not want to accept that. In the political cartoon everyone wanted into the school house to be allied together and work together, which seemed like a good idea at first but when they got in and started working together they realized that this is not what they wanted. No one could come to a comprise and actually work together. When the United States refused to recognize the Philippine independence they took actions into their own hands and Emilio lead his troops into war against the American military. Just like when the countries went into the schoolhouse and realized they where not going to get what they wanted they started fighting for what they wanted. These two documents perceived that people would start wars and fight when they did not see eye to eye with their allies', instead of sitting down and making an agreement or even trying to make a compromise they just jump to fighting. The likelihood that these countries would be fit for American citizenship and its liberties are not looking good at all, if they cannot even talk about how they should fix something or even come to an agreement how are they going to go about being allied powers and its time for war, they will end up losing the war because they are fighting with their own allies.
Question 3. According to President Reagan "having a positive view of American history" simply means not to look at the past and to focus on the future because America has a bright future. Americans should not look into the future blinded and think just because the past was not all to great does not mean the future will be bad as well. There have been many great things accomplished in America even with the few bumps along the way.
In document 6 "having a positive view of American history" Reagan talks about how he was against abortion and that the federally funded clinics where required to notify parents of underage girls that they visited the clinic and what they got from the clinic. He is pushing so human life legislation ending tragedy will never pass congress. He also mentions the constitutional amendment "to restore prayer to public schools."
