Reasons for Pollard and Shcherbakov betrayal Essay

Both Pollard and Shcherbakov chose to betray their countries. But what was happening in the world that caused these men to react in such a way? It is no secret that the U.S. relationship with Israel has been a continuous work in progress. Although the United States considers them a strong proponent in the Middle East, they do not always agree with their decisions. When Pollard was originally arrested, the United States and Israel chose to put aside their differences to work together. Upon this decision, a bond was made. An alliance was made. Since then, the United States and Israel have helped each other in ways far too numerous to count.

War intelligence is not something that only started in 1985. War intelligence was used as early as the Revolutionary War of course, it was not as elaborate as it is today. During the Revolutionary War (17751783) codes and secret messages allowed messages to be transmitted overseas as well as throughout the United States. These were the early stages of the CIA, which was not established until 1947. These Soviet Unions intelligence system, the KGB, was not founded until 1954 but fell apart in 1991.

The KGB, much like the CIA, was created to pass intelligence throughout the Soviet Union and throughout the world. It quickly began the worlds largest intelligence group. As the Cold War became a more prominent threat, the KGB sought its intelligence on homeland, often betraying their own people. The KGB was unable to anticipate its decline and many believe that if they had been more analytical, they would still be around.

Today, the United States is at a standstill with Israel. If the U.S. does not find peace with Israel it will put the safety of both nations in jeopardy. Israel feels free yet relies on America so heavily that it would most likely not survive on its own. During the Cold War, Israel worked against the United States but still sought their friendship. When the United States tried to push back, it nearly caused a retaliation. Since then, the American Jewish leaders had created a pact to keep all lives safe.

On November 20, 2015 Jonathan Pollard was released from prison despite having received a life sentence. Obama did not suggest his early release although he did nothing to stop him from receiving parole. As part of his parole he is required to stay in the United States for the next five years and is not allowed to join his wife in Israel until then. So, what does this mean for Israels relationship with the United States? They are now going to be required to work in accordance with each other until Pollard can be moved. Many U.S. citizens are outraged with his release while people in Israel are joyous for his justice. Either way, the two nations are going to have to put aside their differences if they want to effectively deal with the problems they may face in the future.
