Another group of people from the Middle East that make up a large part of the refugee population in Europe are Iraqi. They are also fleeing war. Normally, aid would arrive to help the Iraqis who were cut off from utilities by ISIS/ISIL/Daesh. However, increased violence has cut off people from aid forcing them to flee.
The last Middle Eastern nation with a considerable amount of refugee is Yemen. People in Yemen are fleeing a civil war between government forces backed by Saudi Arabia and terrorist organizations backed by Iran (Crane-Newman). Most of the Yemeni are fleeing to places in Europe, Djibouti, and Somaliland.
Many people know much about refugees from the Middle East and North Africa. However, using a survey I conducted, I have determined that people don't know about refugees from East Africa. Most people also don't know the places people are fleeing from and the causes.
Another refugee crisis is the Lost Boys of Sudan. Most of these refugees were young boys and men fleeing the Sudanese Civil War. On their journey to refugee camps in Ethiopia, many were captured by warring forces, killed by armed bandits, or died by being prey for animals, hunger, or drowning when crossing rivers (Park).
The refugees had to flee to Ethiopia, a perilous journey. Many refugees died of hunger or were captured and shot. Others were eaten by animals. For those who reached the camps in Ethiopia, they would have to flee once again in a few years due to civil war in Ethiopia (IRC).
The Lost Boys then would flee to Kenya. This wasn't as dangerous a journey, but have rains made it more dangerous. Many drowned crossing overflowing rivers. Once arriving in Kenya, 4000 refugees were selected to go to the United States. These refugees would go back to South Sudan once they received their independence. However, in three years, a civil war erupted and a humanitarian crisis commenced. Many of these refugees who had come back to help to young nations, had to once again flee. Many returned to the United States (IRC). I believe that we should help more of these people by basing troops to restore order and make South Sudan a more habitable place.
The last group of refugees from the Middle East are the Kurds. The Kurds have been driven from their homes in Syria and are considered terrorists in Turkey. Many Kurds have found homes in Europe, but more have died trying.
Many Refugees come from the Middle East, but some come from Africa. Most of these people come from Eritrea. Eritreans are fleeing civil war and a civil rights disaster. However, some are fleeing to other nations, like Djibouti and the self-proclaimed Somaliland (Crane-Newman).
Another large contributor of refugees is Libya. Due to Civil War and terrorist occupations (People Smuggler), many Libyans flee to Italy and Greece.
Another large contributor is Afghanistan. Over 3000 people have died in conflicts with the Taliban, causing 2.7 million people to flee for their lives.
