The crusades a known as a series of military campaigns that took place during the medieval England that fought against the Muslims of the Middle East. During the year 1076 the Muslims had captured the most holy of holy places for Christians, city of Jerusalem.
In the 900s Byzantium had successfully seized religion in Syria, in the begging of the 1030 the Seljuk Turks had managed to take over land and power in Syria. These actions prevented the emperor of Byzantium, Alexis I had sent an assignment to Piacenza, Italy.
The first of the many crusades began in the year 1095 when Christian armies from Western Europe had responded to Pope Urban IIs plea to the holy land and wage war against the Muslim forces. Many knights and peasants joined the crusade as for knights it was a good opportunity to use their fighting skill in battle were as for peasants it was a chance to escape slavery and be freed, plus any who died in battle freeing the e so called holy land would be sent to heaven, and if they survived they were promised wealth. During the first crusade three separate armies of volunteers and crusader knights travel from the western parts of Europe to eastern Mediterranean. During their travel the crusades began to kill or slaughter complete villages or towns of non Christians, they finally met up in Constantinople in 1097, once there they had begun their march to Jerusalem, after two or so months of fighting they had successfully taken over the city of Jerusalem. The Christian armies had successfully managed to defend their conquest in the year 1099 by the defeat of the Egyptian relief army, sadly pope urban II died in July without hearing the news of the victory. Despite the win and the set up of many Latin Christian states the Muslim forces began jihad a holy war to once again have control over the land.
With the news of the win at Jerusalem more armies had begun to make their way to Jerusalem in 11001101 the masses were defeated in Asia Minor and had no chance of getting to Jerusalem. More many years much fighting was done but not in the name of the holy land and it was no longer considered crusading. The byzantiumites had been rather upset due to the fact that the franks had not returned the land that rightly deserved as it had belonged to them the franks did not return the land as they felt it did not belong to them any more as they did not put in sufficient effort for the land. Bohemund ha d taken up the time to create an armed or even crusade to fight against the Byzantium which was defeated at Durazno.
To add to this the franks and the Muslims had continued to fight while the afterward expansion had stopped at Harran in 1104, other than the franks being able to expand their territory the lost the battle at armada in 1109.
