10 types of green space Essay

Abstract
Green space is a land that is partly or completely covered with grass, trees, shrubs, or other vegetation that developed in any big or small areas. Green space in Malaysia nowadays is not fully utilized by people due to hectic and unhealthy urban lifestyle as well as lack of awareness of its benefit. Hence, this study will explore the benefits that green space would provide to the urban community and its environment. This study is using content analysis method by reviewing related article of studies. Interestingly, this study found out that there are several social benefits of green space that may contribute to better human life. It is clear that healthy lifestyle can be obtained through the optimum usage of green space in urban areas. Thus, people should fully utilize that urban green space so that healthy and socialize environment can be achieved.
Introduction
Urban green space is land that is partly or completely covered with grass, trees, shrubs, or other vegetation that developed in town or any urban areas. Generally its contribute to improving people's physical and mental health by providing places for informal recreation - walking, cycling, sitting, socialising and children's play - and 'breathing spaces' to take time out from the stresses of modern life. Besides, they are multi-functional they are used in many different ways. They include not only areas to which the public have physical access, but also visual access, for example, in the way greenspaces provide settings for buildings, communities and everyday activities. There are many types of green space that people can have their time and experience and here 10 types of it will be introduced. One of it is parks and gardens which includes urban parks, formal gardens and country parks. Next is natural and semi- natural greenspaces which includes woodlands, urban forestry, scrub, wetlands, open and running water and grasslands such as downlands, commons, meadows. Green corridors also can be consider as greenspace which includes towpaths along canals and riverbanks, cycleways, rights of way and disused railway lines. Fourth is amenity greenspace which most commonly but not exclusively found in housing areas. It includes informal recreation spaces, greenspaces in and around housing and village greens. Next one is provision for children and young people area which is areas designed primarily for play and social interaction involving children and young people such as playground, skateboard park and others. Besides, outdoor sports facilities also categorize as greenspace which is natural or artificial surfaces either publicly or privately owned used for sport and recreation. This includes school playing fields. Seventh is allotments and community Gardens which is opportunities for those people who wish to do so to grow their own produce as part of the long term promotion of sustainability, health and social inclusion. May also include urban farms. Last but not least, cemeteries and churchyards whereas cemeteries and churchyards including disused churchyards and other burial grounds (Types of Green Space and Definitions, 2016).
