Abortion. My negative point of view about it., 502 words essay example

Essay Topic:point of view,abortion

Abortion is a severely controversial issue, and while there are many people who are totally against it, others believe that the woman should have the right to decide. I believe that abortion is ethically and morally wrong. As I would see it, when a woman decides to partake in intercourse, she is already at a risk of becoming pregnant. Women do this out of their own free will, and they are ultimately the decision makers when concerning what to do about their oncoming child. When a person decides to have sex, whether done with protection or not, whatever results come hereafter that becomes the two parties involved responsibility, where they must now be willing to deal with the consequences that comes with unwanted pregnancy.
The main reason why I believe that abortion is unethical is because it is the intentional killing of a human being. It is a standard notion that life starts at the moment of conception. If we call murder killing another human being, than how isn't it murder in any stage of life? Well, it is, because abortion is the direct murder of the fetus, and since murder is an ethical absolute, it makes it absolutely wrong. When a woman undergoes the process of abortion, we play God, and fresh life is being denied a right to live, breathe, and experience our world. No one should have the right to take the life of another individual, even unborn life.
On the other side of the spectrum, supporters of abortion can conjure up numerous arguments which debate the characteristics of an embryo, such as its capacity to experience pain or whether or not it is truly alive yet. There are also debates that many women who have undergone abortions did use some form of birth control while engaging in intercourse, but the outcome of their situation suggests they came up short. Both sides provide debatable opinions which have led to a frenzy of controversy and at times a civil unrest. The most common argument against abortion as I stated previously, deals with analyzing if a fetus is a 'living' organism, and that abortion itself can be labeled as a form of murder. Arguments such as these do provide some legality, however, they choose to focus only on specific stages in the process of reproduction as oppose to analyzing all stages in the process.
Finally, it is also worth mentioning that Thomson's argument can be used to solve Marquis's issue on the morality of abortion by expressing that, abortion is without a doubt murder, yet it is not vile or unjust. Conclusively, Thomson's definition of the 'right to life' could likewise be stretched out-further to manage other dubious moral issues such as euthanasia, the death penalty, and even self-defense. All in All, after closely inspecting both arguments, and in spite of my own personal convictions regarding abortion, I value both arguments in their subjection's, but have found myself leaning toward supporting Thomson's argument and rejecting Marquis's for the reasons discussed above.
