Essay Topic:service

The company considered for this case study, Ashbeck GM operates in the EU with headquarters in The Netherlands. It is a global company with 13 offices worldwide that connects three continents providing services to over 190 countries. Ashbeck GM was part of TNT, an international mail delivery and logistics service company with headquarters in The Netherlands. Due to TNT having much monopoly in the Dutch courier service market, Ashbeck GM had to break away from them. Then Ashbeck saw the advantage of creating a separate group called Ashbeck GM in 2001. It was the consortium of the large global mail companies' Dutch Post, Asia Post and Alpha Mail that brought to life Ashbeck GM.
In 2013, they became fully owned by the Dutch Post Group, the change brought about the deregulation of the Alpha Mail. Through the changes, they became wholly owned subsidiary of Dutch Post. A mainly owned European company Dutch Post is the national mail and parcel services provider in The Netherlands, it operates in the largest mail and distribution network in the Benelux (Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg) region. Dutch Post over the years has built a strong local foothold in Germany and Italy, together they deliver over 1.1 million items to 190 countries every day. Dutch Post offers Ashbeck GM a solid backbone and autonomy to do things their way.
Ashbeck GM currently operates as an autonomous broker that handles international deliveries across the most reliable network, providing delivery solutions for letters, packets and parcels. These services are provided by their Orange and Blue service providers, which are both major players in the postal industry. Ashbeck Logistics is an agent for the Dutch Post and Alpha Mail service provider, while the Orange is their parent company.
In the 15 years of their existence they have become the largest independent cross-border logistics provider in the market, according to the marketing and communications manager at Ashbeck GM, they have enjoyed rapid growth and gradually repositioned as an e-commerce services partner which offers a much broader range of services.
There are two main forms of competition in the postal industry access and end-to-end. Access competition is where the operator collects mail from customers, sort it and transports it to the universal service provider for delivery. This enables other operators to offer letter postal services to large business customers without setting up their own delivery network. End-to end competition is where an operator other than the universal service provider undertakes the entire process of collecting, sorting and delivering mail to the intended recipients.
Ashbeck GM operates as an access competitor while the parent company operates as an end-to-end competitor, Ashbeck GM deals with the sorting out and collection of consignments from customers then transports it to the appropriate service provider to deliver it to a set destination. The Orange service provider delivers to any part of the world but with limited delivers sent to the UK while their Blue service providers delivers 90% of their consignments coming into the UK.
