In the last class assessment, we have taken the personality test for Holland Codes and the abbreviation RIASEC to explore the interest. Based on the RIASEC code that formulated by John L. Holland, it is a representation of the personality types described in a theory of the occupational formulated. Career counselors and career seekers use these types to focus career exploration and research.
After that, we found out that we are categorized as SEC, which stands for Social, Enterprising, and Conventional.
Job description A special education teacher works with children that have different disabilities from mild to severe. They mainly teach the children about life skills and basic literacy skills as well as several core academic subjects. They also uncover the children's hidden potentials and make them go beyond their limitations. It is also relatively important for special education teachers involve themselves in each different student's behavior, cognitive, social and academic development. They also must regularly assess student's learning progress through critical thinking skills.
Qualification minimum a bachelor degree (in private sector), have to have a state-issued certification or a license or a Master-degree (public school)
Based on the RIASEC code, the S stands for social. People who score higher in the social code are normally helpers. They will have good communication skills and tends to concern, encourage, help and guide the others, which is perfectly matched with the employability skills of special education teachers. The special education teachers will need to encourage the children to go beyond their limitations as well as guide them about the life and basic literacy skills. For people who score higher in E which stands for enterprising, they are normally persuaders. They like to work with people and demonstrate good leadership skills. As a special education teacher, they will need to have the passion to work with people, especially with the children that have different disabilities. They will have to not only teach, but also lead the children in various situations. Last but not least, the C code stands for conventional, as the people who score high in conventional are normally organizers. They pay a lot of attention to the details and have a strong sense of responsibility. The special education teachers at the same time also have to pay a lot of attention to the children about their emotions and expressions in every situation to find the best way to teach or guide the children. They will also need to have a high sense of responsibility in teaching the children as the children have different disabilities and require different teaching method.
Learning Strategies able to select or use different instructions and methods that suitable for every student that have different disabilities when teaching new things.
Communication skills able to discuss the student's needs and emotion to a school teacher, parents, and the kid. They have to explain the concept to simplest form so that the students can understand.
Interpersonal skills able to communicate with students who are hard to express through verbally.
