Foster Child Bill of Rights Essay

Articles of the Foster Child Bill of Rights include the right of being cherished by any family the child is in, nurtured with sensitive care and respect, given an education, represented by an attorneyatlaw, given rightful freedoms, and treated with dignity (Articles 19.) According to Director of Social Services in Cleveland Ohio Matt Battiato, the program is necessary to benefiting parents in need of help, children who need a permanent or temporary home, and foster parents who need a little family of their own. (Battiato) The point is, these kids need help, Battiato states. The foster care system creates opportunities for children to get the best help they can get.

In order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of foster children, social workers make sure the children are getting placed into great foster homes. Foster parents are thoroughly inspected and interviewed by social workers that are passionate about their work and are working fully for the best interest of the child. The foster care system takes pride in their preparation of foster parents and their homes. Background checks, interviews, safety standard checks, spacing inspection, and character references are all set in motion to make sure foster parents will give the best possible care to the needy children (Battiato.) In addition to this, weekly inspections and checkups help ensure the child is happy, healthy, and content. Because the children may have dealt with trauma from their parents instability, parents are thoroughly trained to help the children deal with the psychological and sometimes physical pain. According to Battiato, foster parents are required to take thirty hours of training every two years to stay up to date on the best strategies to help these children in the best possible way. Director Matt Battiato is a former social worker, present foster care director, and passionate participant in placing children in safe homes. As a social worker, Battiato had several heartbreaking experiences. He has seen kids with bruised faces and broken bones. He has been the worker to take those abused children away. He has also been the worker who helps the parents get their feet back on the ground. After years of this kind of public service, he was promoted to Director of his communitys social service center. Battiato says that both jobs have proved to be challenging and rewarding. According to Battiato, anyone involved in helping needy children is a gift to the community. It takes a special kind of person to help in this way and anyone who has the heart for it should get involved. He said, social workers and foster parents are the angels of communities around the world. (Battiato) They are a gift as well as gifted.
