I spend the afternoon in an impeccable room and received a program for my recovery along with prescribed medication. When I received my bill I was shocked 100 dollars for being admitted in the emergency room, a consultation, a half-day room and all the medications.
As I was officially not a medical tourist, because I became ill while I was abroad. The term intrigued me and I started researching it people have obtain cheaper medical care abroad for years. I found out that more and more people are looking into traveling abroad to reduce cost, or to find affordable treatments without insurance. And not just go to Mexico for small surgeries or go to Canada for prescription medication, but also for complex procedures like bypass.
According to Woodman, medical tourism can reduce 40 to 80 percent cost. People are seeing opportunities like in Florida insurance companies are offering plans that reimburse medical treatment overseas. Other entrepreneurs are starting travel companies to help American travel to foreign hospitals.
Unfortunately a lot of discussion arouses about the fact that all the good doctors are going to international hospital and the public hospital of those countries are suffering from it.
The researcher decided to visit one medical tourism facility in a country different than his/her home country to feel the experience, talk with nurses, surgeons and patients.
The Metro Pavia Health System (MPHS) has several hospitals in San Juan, Puerto Rico. People from all over the world can receive medical treatment In the Pavia Hospitals. Patients from the British and U.S. Virgin Islands that require quality health care are the main international patients. Other patients from the US fly to Puerto Rico to get threaten.

The administrative structure was changes and the hospital established itself as a leading facility for healthcare. It became the first hospital to carry out cardiovascular procedures in Puerto Rico. In 2006 it became a key partner to the Metro Pavia Health System. The new administration completely changed the look of the 80 year old facility offering it modern Emergency room, modern clinical laboratory and redoing all the floors of the facility.
