The true cost is a documentary based movie the facts which are most often ignored or neglected. Andrew Morgan has exposed certain factors which remained untouched or were not considered as important to discuss. It is very disturbing to see the other side of the fashion which hides under the glamor of fashion. The movie is about the people behind these amazing and expensive brands. Morgan highlights all the hidden facts that who are the real faces who suffer a lot to make cheap dresses on low payment for the brands, later on, which are sold in a way much amount that they cannot even imagine.
The movie highlights the major downsides of the fashion industry such as collapsing of Rana Plaza building which made 1100 people dead, how the use of pesticides induce birth defect in the people working in the farms. The movie highlights The Burden put on poor farmers by the designer or brands to produce the cheapest cotton in large amount. Then it is shown in the film that how much The Burden is on the Garment Workers who sews the cheap imported cotton day and night on a very low pay. Most of these workers are poor women who manage their home also and work very hard to meet the target set by the factory owner. The process of recycling is another very surprising journey. On the name of donation when a cloth is sent for the donation they undergo another energy consuming and wasteful process which includes very tough job of laboring. The steps involved in making clothes by any brand include Farming, manufacturing, marketing, sales, transporting, recycling, and management of its waste material which consume and release a huge amount of energy and release it in the environment which is very harmful for the health of the people. The documentary also shows that how the clothes are treated afterwards like a disposed garbage. This movie exposes the ugly face of the industry of fashion, the greed of brands and their real faces that how they treat their workers and how they earn great revenue with it. Haiti is shown as an example of the cruel fashion industry in the movie that how the leftover clothing has blocked the lands. The movie presents the fact that fashion industry is on the second position in the world in polluting the environment. It was very shocking to see that people are 500% clothes as compared to the previous decades.
T. Produce quality goods which reduce harmful production of residue and will keep the environment clean. Consumers need to be educated to promote positive ideas of fashion. The message in the movie was to expose the faces behind these brands and educate people enough to pay them fairly according to their hard work. It seems that Morgan wants to incorporate his idea of educating customers that they should only restrict to their basic needs of fashion and clothing which can lower the burden on the industry.
