What have I learned from the interview with the doctor? Essay

For my term project I consulted Dr.Madhu Vishwanath, MD, she at first asked me to send a detailed email regarding the project and what I need to know as her schedule is very and she wants to know in prior before giving the interview. She works at Family Health Care and also at Emory. She gave me interview on 29th October at first but due to her urgent works she postponed it to 5th November at 3p.m. As I said I have sent her all the details regarding the project and what all I wanted to know which made our conversation easier and time saving for the doctor. The interview was held for just few minutes. Within that I covered the important questions that I can.

When I asked doctor about EHR she mentioned that it is the easy way to maintain patients records and easy to understand their previous medications and all. The EHR system followed by them is practice Fusion. Because she said that it is easier for them to check the lab reports and communicate with other doctors. With Primary Fusion we get the fast growing electronic medical record community in the US and can get the instant access to more than 130 flexible builtin templates that meet the diverse needs of primary care patients. It is very easy to extract any particular patient information reducing the time.

She also mentioned that the EHR is very secured and only that particular provider can log in to their own system and they dont have chance to cheat with information.

When I asked doctor regarding HIPAA, she mentioned that it is very important to follow HIPAA rules and regulations. Maintaining the patient records along with their health record is very important. She also mentioned that no patient record will be opened to any other else person except the provider and the patient. If the person wants to know the condition then a form must be signed by the patient to reveal the medical information.

Recommendations

I asked doctor about any recommendations regarding any changes in this field then she said like some changes can be done but that doesnt mean they are major. Changes like coordination between providers and departments. Also training to staff regarding all the changes in health information is necessary and to aware even patients regarding the health care changes and their importance.

With the combination of Health care and IT, advanced technologies are introduced in the Health Care system like EHR and etc. IT plays a major role because of their programing and advanced technologies it became easier to store records and provide services. Now a days even mobile health services has been into existence with which the providers help their patients on phone.

Overall from the interview with doctor I have learnt things which I studied in class, which made me easier to understand how they apply in real world. Apart from these I also saw how the records are maintained and reviewed.
