Knowing how rice production has made an impact around the world is important because it has brought cultural influences to society and has created many similar festivals around the world like the International Rice Festival in Louisiana addressed above. As a geographer it is important to study and take into consideration how changes in the world affect not only the economic growth of one particular area but also how the production in this case, rice, has lead to other cultures use of the product.

As you can see by looking at the various shades of green in Figure 1 above, in 2010 rice production in various countries was continuously on the rise. When rice production began to rise years ago, it brought many benefits and opportunities to individuals around the world. The process of rice production opened job opportunities, and room for improvement in the economy especially in the United States. Rice is now one of the major exports of the United States, which brings in a great amount of money for the economy. Rice is also the most important crop to millions of small farmers who grow it on millions of hectares throughout the region, and to the many landless workers who derive income from working on these farms. In the future, it is imperative that rice production continues to grow at least as rapidly as the population, if not faster. Rice research that develops new technologies for all farmers has a key role to play in meeting this need and contributing to global efforts directed at poverty (http//www.knowledgebank.irri.org/ericeproduction/Importance_of_Rice.html). This quote shows how important rice is overall as a crop, its benefits to farmers around the world and its contribution to keeping the economy stable on its feet.

For the United States of America, Rice production has brought a great amount of economic growth to the country and has also created one of the most significant exports that comes from the United States. Rice production has opened a horizon of opportunities and all around was a beneficial production that started in the early 17th century. Being from the United States and as a geographer it is amazing to see how much of an impact rice production has had not only on the economy but also on the country as a whole. Rice production didnt start out in the 17th century as being one of the most important inventions, but today accounts for one of the most successful productions that has taken place and it is fascinating to see the amount of success that has arose from the production of rice over many centuries. As a geographer it is important to learn about the various developments that have taken place around the world and knowing about how certain productions have become more of a resource to the world is also very important part of being a geographer as well.
