Using converged data centre infrastructure to compete at the speed of disruption
Disruption is all that we hear about nowadays, but with good reasons. From shared economy to industrialized crowdsourcing, with every blink of an eye, the world of business is changing. This is called the Idea Economy, here the lifecycle of idea-to-product has never been any shorter. Here, all the companies, doesn't matter if they are small or large, must possess the mindset of a visionary and should have the technological agility to turn the ideas into reality, rapidly, or risk becoming out-dated.
Dave Pearson, IDC Canada's Research Manager for Enterprise Storage & Networking says, "IT agility is the number one concern among Canadian executives" and "The inability for IT to react in a timely manner to business needs can prove devastating to the bottom line."
How to?
Now the question arises, how do you keep up and how do you suddenly set your IT team free to be as agile as the start-up companies are? To begin, the data structure must be built on the right infrastructure. Businesses of this century cannot afford to have computing, networking and storage operating separately, draining your resources and most importantly, your time, which is the necessity for your IT team for innovation and progress.
To compete at the speed of disruption, a data centre infrastructure architecture which increases workload development and application, to meet business needs is required. And to succeed, the infrastructure must have the capacity to be modular, open, secure, fluid, software-defined, and managed easily by a common management application.
A number of organizations have already started taking steps to converge their data centre infrastructure.
How does converging help?
It combines data centre's components to be managed centrally.
The main aim of a converged infrastructure is to reduce compatibility issues.
Simplifies infrastructure management
Reduces costs for cabling, power, cooling and storage/floor space.
It flattens data centre architectures, combines servers, networking fabric, data storage and software, into a single system, which has the power to run a wide variety of workloads.
Now the next step is to create a new class of infrastructure, like HPE's Composable Infrastructure, where software vendors and developers are independent and can programmatically control the infrastructure and build new workloads using "infrastructure as code" capabilities, through unified API.
The foundation for a Composable Infrastructure and the agility needed to meet present and future businesses demands is laid by converged data centre infrastructure. It provides with future ready and secure IT foundation, which supports virtualization, to cloud computing.
Dave Pearson, IDC Canada's Research Manager for Enterprise Storage & Networking says, "With fewer dollars and resources earmarked for custom development and elective projects, Canadian organizations need to ensure that ALL infrastructure spending is providing real business value, and not just 'keeping the lights on' in the data centre,"
The disruptions which are caused by changes in technology are going to continue, at a rapid space. If business needs of today and of future are to be met,
